Young People’s Views on Food Hygiene and Food Safety: A Multicentre Qualitative Study

Foodborne diseases are a global burden, preventable, and young people key population for behaviour change as they gain autonomy. This study aimed to explore people’s needs across several European countries in relation learning about implementing food hygiene safety. Qualitative focus groups interviews were conducted rural city regions England, France, Hungary Portugal. Data collected attain data saturation, transcribed, thematically analysed, mapped the Theoretical Domains Framework. Twenty-five out of 84 schools approached (29.8%) participated, with from 156 11–18-year-old students. Students had good knowledge personal but did not always follow rules due forgetfulness, lack facilities or concern consequences. limited understanding foodborne microbes, underestimated risks consequences illness perceived “home” environment safest. Young preferred interactive educational methods. Addressing gaps safety is essential improve their towards motivate them behaviours consistently. Findings have been used develop resources address knowledge, skills, attitudes beliefs.
